Two Types of Moments

Have you ever been told to try to “live in the moment”? What does this really even mean anyways? Generally, I think we all understand that it means to enjoy what is actually happening around us when it is happening. I believe that we do a good job of “living” in those naturally exciting moments, but these make up a very small number of moments to actually live in.

We can so easily forget to live in the moments which seem, to put it simply, dull. When it all gets sorted out, most of life is filled with these dull moments. But the reason they seem so dull is because we choose to let them remain in this less than attractive state of existence. There are so many little things to appreciate in every moment, exciting and dull ones alike. The fact that you can think about appreciating a moment is amazing in itself.

Simple Choices In Hidden Moments

Every moment in life deserves an attempt to try to see what morsel of awe can be found hidden in that fleeting flash. So attempt to live in the smallest of moments. To not let life pass by at the high rate which is so easily passes at. This is how we can come to value the doldrums of life. It is a choice to slow down life and see the beauty in the smallest of things, the worth in the most mundane. And it is a choice which will give you a growing appreciation for what can be overlooked in life.

But Every Moment?

It would be quite impossible for a person to focus on each and every moment of the day, mostly because that would take an extreme amount of focus and attention, which most of us already are in short supply of. But even looking to try to find one moment which would normally pass by without even a thought can be eye-opening. Making a daily habit can make a difference in your appreciation of life. To find and remember a handful of moments of each day is what will make a couple more of those 24 hours a little more memorable.

Start Looking

Remember that life will not simply give these treasures to those who do not value them, but only to the few who search for them. So start looking. It is very hard to live each and every moment in this way, but we should still try to find what can be found in the smallest of moments and live in them. To find the value in our suffering, the source of joy in our times of happiness, and the beauty amidst the silence. You will find that in the best, the worst, and even in the dullest of times, there is always something surprising to find in each and every moment of life. You just need to be looking for it.

Life, keep it simple and live it
